Manchin, Capito Announce FEMA Firefighter Grants for July
Washington, D.C. – Today U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) announced $4,252,133 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for fire safety in nine West Virginia counties. The grants — awarded through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Program — will help local departments purchase equipment and recruit personnel.
“I am very grateful to our brave firefighters and all of our first responders for the tremendous work they are doing every day to keep West Virginia communities safe,” Senator Manchin said. “This funding will provide volunteer fire departments with the resources and equipment they need to properly respond to emergencies. I know that these brave men and women will continue to protect West Virginians with the help of this funding for new equipment and technology.”
“Firefighters and emergency responders are often the first on the scene of an emergency, and they rely on their equipment to perform rescues,” Senator Capito said. “This funding will enable fire departments throughout the state to purchase essential new equipment and technology, and help recruit additional emergency responders to keep communities safe.”
